ProVision WMS compared with Manhattan, SAP EWM and Tecsys
All four products are warehouse management systems. They differ in who makes them, how they are deployed and which operations they are built around. This page sets out what each vendor says about its own product, so you can build a shortlist. Every fact about another vendor comes from that vendor's own website, listed under Sources.

What are the best warehouse management systems for 3PLs in Canada?
The best system is the one sized to how you bill, how many sites you run and how many people use RF devices. No single product suits every 3PL.
Start with three questions. Do you bill several clients on different terms? How many sites hold stock? Who will build and support the link to your ERP? The answers narrow the field faster than a feature list.
ProVision WMS is the warehouse management system Ahearn & Soper builds and supports in Canada. Manhattan Associates, SAP and Tecsys also publish warehouse management products that name 3PL or logistics work. The sections below describe each one in its maker's own terms.
What is each system, according to its maker?
ProVision WMS (Ahearn & Soper)
ProVision WMS gives 3PL and distribution operators real-time control of inventory, multi-client billing and pick accuracy. It comes in three solutions: ProVision 3PL Standard, Extended and Advanced. Each runs the same core engine of receiving, putaway, picking, packing and shipping.
Ahearn & Soper positions ProVision WMS in what it calls Tier 2. In its own words, that means "advanced functionality, multi-warehouse support, and ERP integration, sized and priced for medium to large operations." The site notes that tier language is its own positioning, not a certification.
Manhattan ActiveWarehouse (Manhattan Associates)
Manhattan describes ActiveWarehouse as an "AI-driven warehouse management system" that unifies "inventory, labor, automation, and yard." Its site calls it "a cloud-native, continuously updated WMS." It names retail, apparel, food, grocery, 3PL, life sciences and high tech electronics among the industries it serves.
SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM)
SAP says that with SAP EWM "you can manage high-volume warehouse operations." SAP's learning site says EWM "is designed for the management of complex supply chain networks." It can run embedded in SAP S/4HANA or as a separate, decentralized system linked to more than one ERP.
Tecsys WMS (Tecsys)
Tecsys says its WMS helps you "manage complex warehouse operations with speed, accuracy and control." Its site lists healthcare providers, pharmaceutical distribution, medical distribution, wholesale distribution, 3PL and retail among the sectors it serves. Tecsys says it is headquartered in Montreal and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
How do the four compare side by side?
The table uses only what each vendor publishes. Where a vendor's site does not say, the cell reads "Ask the vendor."
ProVision WMS, Manhattan ActiveWarehouse, SAP EWM and Tecsys WMS compared
How does ProVision WMS compare with Manhattan Associates for a 3PL?
Both name 3PL work. The difference is in how each is built and delivered. Manhattan describes a cloud-native, versionless WMS with quarterly updates. ProVision WMS runs as SaaS or on your own servers, and Ahearn & Soper builds the integrations itself.
For a 3PL, the key test is multi-client billing. ProVision 3PL Advanced includes multi-client warehouse management and customizable, client-specific billing. Ask Manhattan, and every other vendor, to show how billing by client works in their system.
Which is better for a Canadian distributor: ProVision WMS or SAP EWM?
Neither is better in general. The right choice depends on your ERP and your volume. SAP EWM can run embedded in SAP S/4HANA, which suits a business that already runs S/4HANA and wants warehouse work inside the same system. SAP's own course material describes EWM for complex, high-volume networks.
ProVision WMS connects to SAP through its API, along with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, Infor, Epicor, Acumatica and others. So an SAP user does not have to choose SAP EWM to keep SAP as the ERP.
What are good mid-market alternatives to SAP EWM for Canadian distributors?
Ahearn & Soper offers ProVision WMS for this gap. It is built for medium to large operations "that need real capability without a Tier 1 budget or implementation timeline." Tecsys and Manhattan also sell warehouse systems that name distribution work. Compare all three against your own sites, users and ERP before you commit.
What should a Canadian healthcare distributor ask a WMS vendor?
Tecsys names healthcare providers, pharmaceutical distribution and medical distribution on its own WMS page. Whichever vendor you look at, ask to see lot, expiry and serial control and audit trails in a demo with your own products.
ProVision WMS does record audit trails on permission changes, added in release 3.1.7. Ahearn & Soper also supports hospitals with identification, wristbands and labels on its healthcare page.
Where does ProVision WMS fit?
ProVision WMS fits warehouses that have outgrown spreadsheets but do not need or want enterprise Tier 1 complexity. These facts come from the Ahearn & Soper site:
- Three sizes. Standard for 3 to 8 RF users, Extended for 5 to 15, Advanced for 5 to 50.
- Two ways to deploy. SaaS or on-premise, single or multi-site.
- No transaction fees. Unlimited orders and SKUs on every solution.
- 31 named integrations. ERP, finance, ecommerce, carrier and integration platforms, plus an API for anything else.
- One Canadian team. Ahearn & Soper designs, implements, integrates and supports it, with no third party in between.
- Hardware from the same team. ProVision WMS runs on Zebra mobile computers, and Ahearn & Soper supplies and services both.
- Customer reviews. Rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google, based on 11 reviews.
What questions should you ask any WMS vendor?
Ask the same questions of every vendor, and ask for the answer in writing.
- Is the client a first-class record? Where billing rules and ownership belong to the client, a second client is configuration, not a rebuild.
- How is the system priced? By user, by site, by transaction or by module? Are there transaction fees?
- Where can it run? Cloud, your own servers, or both? Who hosts it, and where is the data held?
- Who builds the ERP link? The vendor, a partner or your own IT team? Who supports it after go live?
- How long will our project take? Ask for the phases and a reference site of a similar size.
- How do upgrades work? Are they included, and do they need downtime?
- Who supports us in Canada? Where are the support staff, and in which languages?
